Marco Bona is a co-founder and senior partner at MB.O.

He specialises in personal injury and he is internationally recognised as a leading author and lawyer expert in personal injury litigation, cross-border accidents and European tort/consumer law.

Marco has successfully represented hundreds of foreign clients in connection with illness or injury claims in Italy and abroad.

His team has won compensation on behalf of foreign individuals and families involved in a wide range of accidents, including road traffic accidents, skiing accidents, virus outbreaks (in particular salmonella and Legionnaire diseases), maritime disasters (Costa Concordia), plane crashes and railways disasters (Viareggio, Val Venosta).

He has also successfully represented plaintiffs in cases involving medical negligence, accidents at workplaces, asbestos claims, product liability, damages caused by vaccinations, tripping and slipping cases, damages occurred during sports and leisure activities and food poisoning.

In 2010 Marco was the first lawyer in Italy to successfully assert the liability of the Italian government for breach of Directive 2004/80/EC of 29 April 2004 relating to compensation to victims of a crime. In this case Marco Bona represented a young woman from Romania who was a rape victim in Italy.

He is one of the leading members of an International team of lawyers representing more than 150 Egyptian families of the victims of the ferry disaster occurred in 2006 on the Red Sea (the “Al Salam Boccaccio ‘98” ferry disaster in which more than 1,000 passengers lost their life) in court proceedings in Italy and Egypt. He was involved in the class actions issues before U.S. courts by Italian haemophiliacs who contracted HIV from contanimated hemoderivatives.

Marco is also an academic. Ph.D. in Comparative Private Law at the University of Trento (Italy). Formerly a lecturer at Milan Bocconi University, Castellanza University, Novara University and Ph.D. Law School at University of Turin. He is the author of more than 150 publications on Italian and comparative tort law, personal injury compensation, road traffic accidents, medical negligence, european law, class actions and employment law.

Marco is the Chair of the Academic Committee of PEOPIL (Pan European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers) and the author and co-editor of PEOPIL’s Personal Injury Compensation in Europe (Kluwer, Deventer, 2003) and Fatal Accidents and Compensation of Secondary Victims in Europe (XPL, London, 2005).

Marco was invited by the Committee on Legal Affairs of the European Parliament to participate as an expert at the EC Commission’s session of 30 May 2006 on the proposal «Limitation periods in cross-border disputes involving injuries and fatal accidents» and the EC Commission’s Public Hearing on Road Traffic Accidents (19 March 2007).

Marco is a regular speaker at conferences, seminars and courses throughout Italy. He also provides training to judges and lawyers.

He is a member of the Bar Association of Turin.
